Determining the degree of damage to the central nervous system (CNS) makes it possible to evaluate the results of various methods of treatment for perinatal asphyxia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and intraventricular hemorrhages, as well as the risk of developing a neurological deficit. A wide range of biomarkers, including neuroproteins, calcium-binding protein, vasoactive substances, markers of oxidative stress, and inflammatory mediators, have been studied in evaluating the complications of hypoxic CNS injury.
