Abstract. The review examines the main trends in the field of renewable electric energy sources. The current state in this field is shown, as well as promising developments. Possibilities of alternative energy on the basis of currents produced by seaweeds based on photosynthesis are presented, as well as possibilities of using seaweeds as biofuel. The possibilities of devices based on superionic materials with prospects for use in alternative energy are also shown.
