Abstract. It is shown that with a reasonable combination of traditional classroom and independent extracurricular presentation of the studied material, the student develops qualitative knowledge. This is facilitated by the process of active introduction of information and computer technologies at various stages of the organization of education in modern higher education, especially when applying a fundamentally new form of independent extracurricular activity - student self-education. The main distinctive features of self-education as a form of development of professional skills and competencies of a student, as well as the functions of a teacher and his responsible role in the professional development of a university graduate are given. The form of self-education tasks is determined in the form of preparation and delivery by each student of a student's control work on an independently learned topic. It is also noted the need to take into account the activities of the teacher to guide the implementation of each task on self-education. The question of the student's average grade point and its role in the effectiveness of the professional training program in the country is particularly considered.
